New South Wales holds the most at 272 — 46% of the national figure — ahead of Victoria (99) and Australian Capital Territory (85). The smallest recorded total is Tasmania, with 2. They sit in 433 named towns across 436 recorded areas.

Rooty Hill (16), Leeton (10) and Mudgee (9) carry the most between them. Those 3 account for 35 of the 591; a further 344 towns record exactly one. The single busiest is Rooty Hill, NSW.

The list takes in Company Square on Todd Street, Fairfield Train Station, Dampier Reserve and Grassy Head Caravan Park.
