About the National Public Toilet Map

The National Public Toilet Map is the Australian Government’s open dataset of public and publicly-accessible toilets, published on data.gov.au under a Creative Commons licence. We map the same facilities and layer a distance search, per-listing reports and researched guides on top. It is the source of every toilet shown here — see our data sources for currency and limits.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a national public toilet map for Australia?
Yes. The Australian Government publishes the National Public Toilet Map, which records about 24,446 public toilets across the country. This site is built on that data: it maps the same toilets and adds a "near me" search, opening hours where councils recorded them, accessibility and MLAK flags, and a way to report a toilet that was locked or closed.
How do I use the public toilet map to find the nearest toilet?
Open the finder, press "Near me" and allow location access. The map and list re-sort by distance from where you are, each toilet shows how far away it is, and "Directions" opens it in your maps app. You can also type a suburb, town or postcode instead of sharing your location.
Is there a public toilet map for my city?
Yes — every capital and major city has its own page mapping the toilets within reach of the centre, and you can filter each for 24-hour, accessible, free, showers or baby change. The city links are below.
Is there a public toilet map app?
This site works as a web app on any phone — add it to your home screen and the "Near me" button gives you the map wherever you are, no install needed. The Australian Government also offers a National Public Toilet Map app.

Where this data comes from

Data from the National Public Toilet Map, Australian Government Department of Health, released 28 January 2025 and imported 27 May 2025; amenity details such as dump points, sharps disposal, ambulant cubicles and adult change tables were refreshed from the 1 August 2026 release. Licensed CC BY 3.0 AU. The dataset has no per-facility verification date — if a listing is wrong, use the report button on it. See our data sources for more.
