Cookie Policy
Last updated: 21 August 2026
Cookies are small files a website asks your browser to store. This page lists the cookies and similar storage that ToiletNearMe Australia actually uses. There are no advertising cookies on this site, because there are no ads and no ad network.
We do not currently show a cookie consent banner. Analytics cookies are set when you load the site, and you can block or clear them at any time using the methods below. If we add advertising or any other cookie that needs consent, we will add a consent banner before it goes live and update this page.
Analytics cookies
We use Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-2B6Y19YS1V) to count page views and see which suburbs and pages people find useful. It typically sets:
_ga— distinguishes one browser from another. Expires around two years after it is set or refreshed._ga_<container>— keeps session state for our specific property. Expires around two years after it is set or refreshed.
These identify a browser, not a person. We do not use them to build advertising audiences. You can opt out with Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on or by blocking them in your browser. Nothing on the site stops working if you do.
Spam protection
Our contact form is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that a submission comes from a person and not a bot. Turnstile may set a cookie or use similar browser storage on the contact page in order to run and validate that check. It is strictly necessary for the form to work — if you block it, the form will tell you and you can email us another way. Cloudflare states that Turnstile does not use the data it collects for tracking or advertising.
Sign-in cookies (administrators only)
Our database provider, Supabase, sets authentication cookies when someone signs in to the private admin area used to manage site content. These are strictly necessary for that sign-in to work. Ordinary visitors never sign in, so these cookies are not set for you.
Voting and reporting a problem
If you use the thumbs up or thumbs down buttons, or the “Report a problem” button, on a toilet listing, we set one first-party cookie named tnm_vid. It holds a random identifier with nothing personal in it, lasts twelve months, and cannot be read by JavaScript. Its only purpose is to remember which listings you have voted on or reported, so the site can show your vote back to you, let you change or remove it, and recognise a repeat report from the same browser.
One cookie covers both features — reporting a problem does not add a second one. It is set only if you actually vote or report. If you never press those buttons, it is never created. We store a one-way hash of its value alongside your vote or report, never the value itself. Clearing it simply detaches you from your previous votes and reports.
Other third-party requests
Some parts of the site load resources directly from other providers, and those providers can set their own cookies or storage under their own policies:
- OpenStreetMap, which serves the map tiles.
- Google, which serves the analytics script and our web font.
- SearchAtlas, an SEO optimisation script that runs on our pages.
Your location is not a cookie
If you allow the “Near Me” feature to use your location, your coordinates are held in your browser for that session only. They are not written to a cookie or to local storage, and revoking the location permission in your browser removes our access immediately.
How to control cookies
Every major browser lets you view, delete and block cookies from its privacy or site settings, and most offer a “block third-party cookies” option or a tracking protection mode. Content blockers will also stop the analytics script from loading at all. Blocking cookies on this site does not prevent you from finding toilets.
