Toilets with Showers in Victoria: what the data shows
Of the 1,931 public toilets with a shower on site on the national map, 309 are in Victoria. That makes it the fourth-largest state total, behind New South Wales (695), Queensland (377) and Western Australia (334). They sit in 210 named towns.
The largest clusters are at Mornington (7), Mill Park (6) and Ocean Grove (6). Those 3 account for 19 of the 309; a further 148 towns record exactly one.
Among them are Eagle Point on Eagle Bay Road, Sirens Rest Beach, Smiths Beach Road and Rye Foreshore. Around Mornington the listings run to Scout Hall Beach, Fishermans Beach 1 and Shire Hall Beach.
The mix runs to 87 parks and reserves, 35 beaches, 35 service stations and 25 sporting grounds. Across the set the listings cover 16 of the 17 kinds of site the map names. A further 43 are filed under the map's catch-all "Other" category. That is 5% of every public toilet recorded in Victoria (5,803 in total), and 6% of those open 24 hours.
230 of the 309 are recorded as wheelchair accessible — such as Bullock Island and Tarneit Community Learning Centre. 33 are Changing Places facilities, with an adult-sized change table and a hoist — among them Centro The Glen and Westfield Knox. 18 open with an MLAK key, the national Master Locksmiths Access Key — among them Maroondah Nets and Cobblebank Stadium. 3 need a key from the operator instead, which means finding whoever holds it before you arrive. 98 of the 309 have a baby-change table, and 96 of those sit at a site that is also wheelchair accessible.
176 of the 309 are published as open 24 hours — among them Lions Park and Rawson Shopping Centre. 44 open in daylight hours only, 13 list variable hours and 10 follow the host venue's hours. Where set times are published, the earliest opening is 5am at Ascot Vale Leisure Centre and the latest closing is 11pm at Cobblebank Stadium. 2 are shown as closed on Mondays. 61 publish no weekly hours at all, so treat those as unknown rather than open.
4 of the 309 charge for entry; the rest are free — the charging ones being Elmhurst Reserve and Funfields Themepark - Amazonia Falls. A shower recorded here is a public shower at the same site as the toilet. The dataset does not record whether it is hot, whether it takes coins, or whether it keeps the same hours as the toilet block, so the ones attached to caravan parks and pools are the least predictable. These numbers come straight from the National Public Toilet Map, so confirm anything you are relying on before you set out.
