Toilets with Sharps Disposal in Victoria

Victoria records 1,571 of Australia's 4,955 public toilets with a sharps disposal bin — 32% of the national total. That is more than any other state or territory — Queensland is next with 1,081. They sit in 599 named towns.

Melbourne (39), Frankston (21) and Mornington (16) carry the most between them. Those 3 account for 76 of the 1,571; a further 295 towns record exactly one.

The list takes in Galaxy Park at 25 Betula Terrace, Federation Park - Cobram, McKenzie Reserve and Sirens Rest Beach. Around Melbourne the listings run to Melbourne Town Hall, Alexandra Park and Nursery.

Most sit in parks and reserves (801), with 131 shopping centres, 104 sporting grounds and 99 car parks. Across the set the listings cover 16 of the 17 kinds of site the map names. A further 221 are filed under the map's catch-all "Other" category. They are 27% of the 5,803 public toilets recorded in Victoria, and 21% of the round-the-clock ones.

1,229 of the 1,571 are recorded as wheelchair accessible — including Jam Factory and Rosebud Foreshore. 44 are Changing Places facilities, with an adult-sized change table and a hoist — among them Ballarat Botanical Gardens - North and Latrobe City Service Centre Traralgon. 46 open with an MLAK key, the national Master Locksmiths Access Key — among them Hargreaves Street Multi Storey Car Park and Centro The Glen. 27 need a key from the operator instead, which means finding whoever holds it before you arrive. 584 of the 1,571 have a baby-change table, and 566 of those sit at a site that is also wheelchair accessible.

642 of the 1,571 are published as open 24 hours — such as Balcombe Park Reserve and Frankston Memorial Park. 525 open in daylight hours only, 76 list variable hours and 13 follow the host venue's hours. The widest published window runs 4am to 11:59pm, at Ballarat Railway Station. 30 are shown as closed on Mondays. 619 publish no weekly hours at all, so treat those as unknown rather than open.

5 of the 1,571 charge for entry; the rest are free — the charging ones being Mooroolbark Station and North Park Club Rooms. A sharps bin is a sealed container for used needles, lancets and pen needles — for people who inject insulin or other medication as much as anyone else. The map records that a bin is present, not how often it is emptied. Every figure here is counted from the National Public Toilet Map, which operators and councils update at their own pace.
