Toilets with Showers in other states

Toilets with Showers in Western Australia: what the data shows

Western Australia records 334 of Australia's 1,931 public toilets with a shower on site — 17% of the national total. That makes it the third-largest state total, behind New South Wales (695) and Queensland (377). They sit in 217 named towns.

Rottnest Island (12), Mandurah (8) and Rockingham (8) carry the most between them. Those 3 account for 28 of the 334; a further 155 towns record exactly one.

They include BP Southern Cross on Cnr Great Eastern Hwy & Spicia St, Iluka Foreshore Park, Myalup Beach and Ampol Bibra Lake. Around Rottnest Island the listings run to Kingston Barracks, Basin and Henderson Avenue.

The mix runs to 88 parks and reserves, 45 beaches, 39 service stations and 30 sporting grounds. Across the set the listings cover 16 of the 17 kinds of site the map names. A further 52 are filed under the map's catch-all "Other" category. They are 12% of the 2,767 public toilets recorded in Western Australia, and 11% of the round-the-clock ones.

255 of the 334 are recorded as wheelchair accessible — including Kulin and Pingelly Recreation and Cultural Centre (PRACC). 20 are Changing Places facilities, with an adult-sized change table and a hoist — among them Elizabeth Quay and Deep Water Point Reserve. 10 open with an MLAK key, the national Master Locksmiths Access Key — among them BP The Lakes and Broome Recreation Aquatic Centre. 14 need a key from the operator instead, which means finding whoever holds it before you arrive. 90 of the 334 have a baby-change table, and 87 of those sit at a site that is also wheelchair accessible.

149 of the 334 are published as open 24 hours — such as Cooke Street and Swimmers Beach. 68 open in daylight hours only, 18 list variable hours and 5 follow the host venue's hours. Where set times are published, the earliest opening is 4am at BP Placid Ark and the latest closing is 11pm at Citiplace Rest Centre. 13 are shown as closed on Mondays. 102 publish no weekly hours at all, so treat those as unknown rather than open.

7 of the 334 charge for entry; the rest are free — the charging ones being Citiplace Rest Centre and Walpole Sport and Recreation Centre. A shower recorded here is a public shower at the same site as the toilet. The dataset does not record whether it is hot, whether it takes coins, or whether it keeps the same hours as the toilet block, so the ones attached to caravan parks and pools are the least predictable. Every figure here is counted from the National Public Toilet Map, which operators and councils update at their own pace.
