Toilets with Showers in Queensland: what the data shows
377 public toilets with a shower on site are recorded in Queensland, out of 1,931 nationally. That makes it the second-largest state total, behind New South Wales (695). They sit in 276 named towns.
The heaviest concentrations are around Yarrabah (8), Redcliffe (5) and Tara (5). Those 3 account for 18 of the 377; a further 207 towns record exactly one.
The list takes in Dundubara Camping Area - Great Sandy National Park on Wungu Sandblow Track, Westfield Coomera, Tobruk Memorial Baths and Miller Park. Around Yarrabah the listings run to Beach Road, Jilji - Back Beach Road and Community Shopping Centre.
Most sit in parks and reserves (156), with 60 service stations, 27 sporting grounds and 26 camping grounds. Across the set the listings cover 15 of the 17 kinds of site the map names. A further 38 are filed under the map's catch-all "Other" category. Set against the 4,551 listings in Queensland, that is a 8% share, rising to 10% among the 24-hour listings.
260 of the 377 are recorded as wheelchair accessible — among them Scarborough Beach Park (Central) and Noosa Civic. 17 are Changing Places facilities, with an adult-sized change table and a hoist — among them Brisbane Airport Domestic Terminal and Colmslie Pool. 12 open with an MLAK key, the national Master Locksmiths Access Key — among them Woree Bicentennial Aquatic Centre and Palm Beach Aquatic Centre. 4 need a key from the operator instead, which means finding whoever holds it before you arrive. 74 of the 377 have a baby-change table, and 71 of those sit at a site that is also wheelchair accessible.
231 of the 377 are published as open 24 hours — including Behana Creek Picnic Reserve/Smithy Holmes Park and Ron Beaton Park 1. 51 open in daylight hours only, 17 list variable hours and 5 follow the host venue's hours. Where set times are published, the earliest opening is 4am at Caltex Curra and the latest closing is 11pm at Tom Jeffery Memorial Park. 2 are shown as closed on Mondays. 75 publish no weekly hours at all, so treat those as unknown rather than open.
8 of the 377 charge for entry; the rest are free — the charging ones being Lynd Oasis Roadhouse and Mackay airport. A shower recorded here is a public shower at the same site as the toilet. The dataset does not record whether it is hot, whether it takes coins, or whether it keeps the same hours as the toilet block, so the ones attached to caravan parks and pools are the least predictable. All of the counts above are read from the National Public Toilet Map rather than checked in person.
