Toilets with Drinking Water in other states

Toilets with Drinking Water in Queensland: what the data shows

Of the 2,862 public toilets with drinking water on site on the national map, 620 are in Queensland. That makes it the second-largest state total, behind New South Wales (1,000). They sit in 400 named towns.

The largest clusters are at Torquay (8), Yarrabah (8) and Tin Can Bay (7). Those 3 account for 23 of the 620; a further 273 towns record exactly one.

The list takes in Henry Lawson Bicentennial Park at 533-569 Karrabin-Rosewood Road, Hughenden Recreational Lake, Miller Park and Isaac River. Around Torquay the listings run to Ron Beaton Park 1, Botanic Gardens Orchid House and Neilson 1.

Most sit in parks and reserves (358), with 42 camping grounds, 34 train stations and 28 highway rest areas. Across the set the listings cover 16 of the 17 kinds of site the map names. A further 49 are filed under the map's catch-all "Other" category. That is 14% of every public toilet recorded in Queensland (4,551 in total), and 11% of those open 24 hours.

487 of the 620 are recorded as wheelchair accessible — such as Bimerah and Bridgewater. 8 are Changing Places facilities, with an adult-sized change table and a hoist — among them Brisbane Airport Domestic Terminal and Peppertree Park. 3 open with an MLAK key, the national Master Locksmiths Access Key — among them Splash Side and Cairns Esplanade Lagoon. 5 need a key from the operator instead, which means finding whoever holds it before you arrive. 173 of the 620 have a baby-change table, and 168 of those sit at a site that is also wheelchair accessible.

266 of the 620 are published as open 24 hours — among them Behana Creek Picnic Reserve/Smithy Holmes Park and Eaton Park. 151 open in daylight hours only, 82 list variable hours and 2 follow the host venue's hours. Where set times are published, the earliest opening is 3:45am at Central Railway Station and the latest closing is 11:56pm at Beerwah Railway Station. 6 are shown as closed on Mondays. 250 publish no weekly hours at all, so treat those as unknown rather than open.

4 of the 620 charge for entry; the rest are free — the charging ones being Pebble Creek Parklands and Boyne Valley Discovery Centre. Drinking water means a tap, bubbler or refill station recorded at the site. Councils turn some off over winter or under water restrictions without the dataset changing, and none of these are recorded as tested or treated. These numbers come straight from the National Public Toilet Map, so confirm anything you are relying on before you set out.
