Rest Area Toilets in Queensland: what the data shows
134 public toilets at highway rest areas are recorded in Queensland, out of 602 nationally. That makes it the second-largest state total, behind New South Wales (269). They sit in 121 named towns.
The heaviest concentrations are around Basalt (3), Biloela (2) and Coen (2). Those 3 account for 7 of the 134; a further 109 towns record exactly one.
Named listings include Coominglah Range Rest Area on Burnett Highway, Isaac River, Rodd's Bay South Rest Area and Eunamurrin Truck Stop. Around Basalt the listings run to Gregory Highway Rest Area, Eumara Truck Stop and Fletcher Creek Rest Area.
Of the 134, 97 have parking on site, 109 are published as open 24 hours and 28 have drinking water. Set against the 4,551 listings in Queensland, that is a 3% share, rising to 5% among the 24-hour listings.
64 of the 134 are recorded as wheelchair accessible — among them Gatton-Clifton Road Rest Area and Inglewood Rest Area. 7 of the 134 have a baby-change table, and 6 of those sit at a site that is also wheelchair accessible.
109 of the 134 are published as open 24 hours — including Bedourie Monkira Rest Area and Teamsters Park. 14 open in daylight hours only and 10 list variable hours. The widest published window runs 6am to 7pm, at Rotary Park (Foxton). 24 publish no weekly hours at all, so treat those as unknown rather than open.
Nothing here records a charge at the door. Rest area entries come from the highway stopping places in the National Public Toilet Map. The dataset records the toilet, not the bay: it does not say whether a site is signposted for heavy vehicles, how long you may stay, or whether the stop is lit at night. All of the counts above are read from the National Public Toilet Map rather than checked in person.
