Toilets with Drinking Water in other states

Toilets with Drinking Water in New South Wales: what the data shows

Of the 2,862 public toilets with drinking water on site on the national map, 1,000 are in New South Wales. That is more than any other state or territory — Queensland is next with 620. They sit in 512 named towns.

The largest clusters are at Corowa (14), Cronulla (13) and Warilla (13). Those 3 account for 40 of the 1,000; a further 328 towns record exactly one.

They include Lynwood Park on Rangers Road, Waratah Park Basketball Stadium, Maybe Street and Fernside Skate Park. Around Corowa the listings run to Aerodrome, Lions Riverside Park and Rowers Park.

Most sit in parks and reserves (423), with 236 sporting grounds, 73 community buildings and 37 shopping centres. Across the set the listings cover 17 of the 17 kinds of site the map names. A further 87 are filed under the map's catch-all "Other" category. That is 13% of every public toilet recorded in New South Wales (7,651 in total), and 9% of those open 24 hours.

763 of the 1,000 are recorded as wheelchair accessible — such as Beaconsfield Park and Ed.Square Town Centre. 21 are Changing Places facilities, with an adult-sized change table and a hoist — among them Bankstown City Gardens and Stockland Green Hills. 71 open with an MLAK key, the national Master Locksmiths Access Key — among them Pit Paddock and Ingleburn. 39 need a key from the operator instead, which means finding whoever holds it before you arrive. 361 of the 1,000 have a baby-change table, and 351 of those sit at a site that is also wheelchair accessible.

242 of the 1,000 are published as open 24 hours — among them River Street and Parklands Oval. 259 open in daylight hours only, 127 list variable hours and 18 follow the host venue's hours. Where set times are published, the earliest opening is 2:30am at Sydney Airport - International Terminal and the latest closing is 11pm at Freshwater Beach Surf Life Saving Club. 69 are shown as closed on Mondays. 416 publish no weekly hours at all, so treat those as unknown rather than open.

9 of the 1,000 charge for entry; the rest are free — the charging ones being Goulburn Aquatic and Leisure Centre and Stocko. Drinking water means a tap, bubbler or refill station recorded at the site. Councils turn some off over winter or under water restrictions without the dataset changing, and none of these are recorded as tested or treated. These numbers come straight from the National Public Toilet Map, so confirm anything you are relying on before you set out.
