Toilets with Drinking Water in other states

Toilets with Drinking Water in Western Australia: what the data shows

Of the 2,862 public toilets with drinking water on site on the national map, 378 are in Western Australia. That makes it the fourth-largest state total, behind New South Wales (1,000), Queensland (620) and Victoria (552). They sit in 219 named towns.

The largest clusters are at Rottnest Island (13), Rockingham (8) and Margaret River (7). Those 3 account for 28 of the 378; a further 137 towns record exactly one.

They include Kalgoorlie-Boulder Airport on Hart Kerspien Drive, Butterworth Park, Avon Park and Kulin. Around Rottnest Island the listings run to Kingston Barracks, Basin and Digby Drive.

Most sit in parks and reserves (160), with 45 sporting grounds, 25 community buildings and 15 beaches. Across the set the listings cover 17 of the 17 kinds of site the map names. A further 56 are filed under the map's catch-all "Other" category. That is 14% of every public toilet recorded in Western Australia (2,767 in total), and 11% of those open 24 hours.

300 of the 378 are recorded as wheelchair accessible — such as Pingelly Recreation and Cultural Centre (PRACC) and Alpha Park. 10 are Changing Places facilities, with an adult-sized change table and a hoist — among them Mary Carroll Park - Eudoria Street and Deep Water Point Reserve. 9 open with an MLAK key, the national Master Locksmiths Access Key — among them Memorial Park and Fletcher Park. 12 need a key from the operator instead, which means finding whoever holds it before you arrive. 117 of the 378 have a baby-change table, and 111 of those sit at a site that is also wheelchair accessible.

152 of the 378 are published as open 24 hours — among them Rivermouth and Yallingup Beach. 65 open in daylight hours only, 28 list variable hours and 7 follow the host venue's hours. Where set times are published, the earliest opening is 3am at Perth Airport - Terminal 4 and the latest closing is 11pm at Beecroft Park. 8 are shown as closed on Mondays. 121 publish no weekly hours at all, so treat those as unknown rather than open.

4 of the 378 charge for entry; the rest are free — the charging ones being Middle Lagoon Coastal Camp and Kondinin Rest Area. Drinking water means a tap, bubbler or refill station recorded at the site. Councils turn some off over winter or under water restrictions without the dataset changing, and none of these are recorded as tested or treated. These numbers come straight from the National Public Toilet Map, so confirm anything you are relying on before you set out.
