Train Station Toilets in other states

Train Station Toilets in New South Wales: what the data shows

New South Wales records 306 of Australia's 622 public toilets at train stations — 49% of the national total. That is more than any other state or territory — Victoria is next with 162. They sit in 283 named towns.

Sydney (5), Ashfield (3) and Haymarket (3) carry the most between them. Those 3 account for 11 of the 306; a further 265 towns record exactly one.

The list takes in Fairfield Train Station on Dale Street, Kingswood Train Station, Toongabbie Train Station and Yennora Train Station. Around Sydney the listings run to Central Station Grand Concourse, Town Hall Train Station and St James Train Station.

Of the 306, 192 are recorded as wheelchair accessible, 58 are published as open 24 hours and 80 have a baby-change table. They are 4% of the 7,651 public toilets recorded in New South Wales, and 2% of the round-the-clock ones.

192 of the 306 are recorded as wheelchair accessible — including Meadowbank Train Station and Casino Train Station. 27 open with an MLAK key, the national Master Locksmiths Access Key — among them Bondi Junction Train Station and Ashfield Train Station. 48 need a key from the operator instead, which means finding whoever holds it before you arrive. 80 of the 306 have a baby-change table, and 75 of those sit at a site that is also wheelchair accessible.

58 of the 306 are published as open 24 hours — such as Orange Train Station and Westmead Train Station. 8 open in daylight hours only, 112 list variable hours and 4 follow the host venue's hours. Where set times are published, the earliest opening is 4:30am at Cronulla Train Station and the latest closing is 11:30pm at Lismore Train Station. 9 are shown as closed on Mondays. 120 publish no weekly hours at all, so treat those as unknown rather than open.

1 of the 306 charges for entry; the rest are free: Edgecliff Train Station. Station toilets are frequently inside the paid area, past the gates. The dataset records the facility at the station address and does not distinguish concourse from platform. Every figure here is counted from the National Public Toilet Map, which operators and councils update at their own pace.
