Community Building Toilets in Tasmania: what the data shows

Of the 907 public toilets in community buildings on the national map, 35 are in Tasmania. That makes it the sixth-largest state total, behind New South Wales (310), Victoria (228), Western Australia (129), Queensland (109) and South Australia (76). They sit in 29 named towns.

The largest clusters are at Hobart (5), Devonport (2) and Launceston (2). Those 3 account for 9 of the 35; a further 26 towns record exactly one.

They include Lauderdale Hall at 528 South Arm Road, Hobart Town Hall, Irishtown Community Centre and Okines Community Garden. Around Hobart the listings run to Hobart Library, Mathers House (Lower) and Mathers House (Main Hall).

Of the 35, 25 are recorded as wheelchair accessible, 14 have a baby-change table and 25 have parking on site. None of them takes an MLAK key. That is 4% of every public toilet recorded in Tasmania (966 in total), and 2% of those open 24 hours.

25 of the 35 are recorded as wheelchair accessible — such as Adventure Bay Community Hall and Lyall Street. 14 of the 35 have a baby-change table, and every one of those sits at a site that is also wheelchair accessible.

15 of the 35 are published as open 24 hours — among them Middleton Community Hall and Meander Hall. 6 open in daylight hours only and 4 list variable hours. The widest published window runs 12am to 8pm, at Urgent Care Clinic. 11 publish no weekly hours at all, so treat those as unknown rather than open.

Every listing in this set is recorded as free to use. Libraries, halls, council customer service centres and neighbourhood houses are all recorded here. These are the listings most likely to be behind a counter, and the ones most often fitted with an MLAK lock. These numbers come straight from the National Public Toilet Map, so confirm anything you are relying on before you set out.
