Camping Ground Toilets in Tasmania: what the data shows

36 public toilets at camping grounds are recorded in Tasmania, out of 657 nationally. That makes it the sixth-largest state total, behind Victoria (178), New South Wales (141), Queensland (138), Western Australia (85) and South Australia (50). They sit in 26 named towns.

The heaviest concentrations are around South Bruny (4), Arthur River (3) and Binalong Bay (3). Those 3 account for 10 of the 36; a further 20 towns record exactly one.

They include Horsehead Creek Riverside Park at 19 Devonport Road, Lagoon Camping Grounds, Waterfall Valley and Top Camp - Mt William National Park. Around South Bruny the listings run to Cloudy Corner Campground, Jetty Beach Campground and The Pines Campsite.

Of the 36, 4 have a shower, 2 have drinking water and 10 have parking on site. Set against the 966 listings in Tasmania, that is a 4% share, rising to 6% among the 24-hour listings.

9 of the 36 are recorded as wheelchair accessible — among them Franklin Foreshore and St Marys Recreation Ground. 1 of the 36 has a baby-change table, and every one of those sits at a site that is also wheelchair accessible.

35 of the 36 are published as open 24 hours — including Friendly Beaches Campground and Dora Point Camping Area. The widest published window runs 5am to 8pm, at Horsehead Creek Riverside Park.

Nothing here records a charge at the door. These sit at the campground itself, which covers national park campsites, council reserves and free camps alike. The dataset does not record camping fees, booking rules or whether day visitors may use the block. All of the counts above are read from the National Public Toilet Map rather than checked in person.
