Beach Toilets in other states

Beach Toilets in South Australia: what the data shows

33 public toilets at beaches are recorded in South Australia, out of 486 nationally. That makes it the sixth-largest state total, behind New South Wales (133), Western Australia (109), Victoria (97), Queensland (64) and Tasmania (47). They sit in 30 named towns.

The heaviest concentrations are around Corny Point (2), Maslin Beach (2) and Thompson Beach (2). Those 3 account for 6 of the 33; a further 27 towns record exactly one.

They include Mosley Square at 1 Moseley Sq, Shelley Beach, Wyomi Beach and Sleaford Bay.

Of the 33, 9 have a shower, 24 have parking on site and 19 are recorded as wheelchair accessible. Set against the 2,067 listings in South Australia, that is a 2% share, rising to 2% among the 24-hour listings.

19 of the 33 are recorded as wheelchair accessible — among them Bluff Beach and Perlubie Beach. 1 is a Changing Places facility, with an adult-sized change table and a hoist: Henley Square. 2 open with an MLAK key, the national Master Locksmiths Access Key — among them Whyalla Changing Places. 4 of the 33 have a baby-change table, and 3 of those sit at a site that is also wheelchair accessible.

20 of the 33 are published as open 24 hours — including Thredgolds Beach and Railway Terrace (Boomer Beach). 8 open in daylight hours only. The widest published window runs 5am to 11pm, at Seacliff Foreshore. 8 publish no weekly hours at all, so treat those as unknown rather than open.

Nothing here records a charge at the door. Beach blocks are recorded at the foreshore. Councils close some of them out of season and reopen them for summer patrols, which the published hours in the dataset rarely capture. All of the counts above are read from the National Public Toilet Map rather than checked in person.
