Toilets with Parking in South Australia: what the data shows
1,309 public toilets with parking at the site are recorded in South Australia, out of 15,787 nationally. That makes it the fifth-largest state total, behind New South Wales (5,446), Victoria (3,708), Queensland (2,675) and Western Australia (1,769). They sit in 595 named towns.
The heaviest concentrations are around Adelaide (18), Murray Bridge (16) and Belair (15). Those 3 account for 49 of the 1,309; a further 328 towns record exactly one.
They include Perry Bend on River Road, BP Victor Harbor, Clare Skate Park and Dampier Reserve. Around Adelaide the listings run to Rymill Park, Edwards Park - Anzac Highway and Hungry Jacks.
Most sit in parks and reserves (592), with 127 service stations, 88 sporting grounds and 78 shopping centres. Across the set the listings cover 17 of the 17 kinds of site the map names. A further 181 are filed under the map's catch-all "Other" category. Set against the 2,067 listings in South Australia, that is a 63% share, rising to 55% among the 24-hour listings.
840 of the 1,309 are recorded as wheelchair accessible — among them Hamilton Reserve and Scotland Street. 19 are Changing Places facilities, with an adult-sized change table and a hoist — among them George Bolton Swimming Centre and Barossa Village Community Hydrotherapy Pool. 15 open with an MLAK key, the national Master Locksmiths Access Key — among them Elizabeth City Centre and Edinburgh Reserve. 12 need a key from the operator instead, which means finding whoever holds it before you arrive. 325 of the 1,309 have a baby-change table, and 306 of those sit at a site that is also wheelchair accessible.
540 of the 1,309 are published as open 24 hours — including Emu Bay and Inman Valley Road. 304 open in daylight hours only, 121 list variable hours and 12 follow the host venue's hours. Where set times are published, the earliest opening is 4am at Adelaide Airport and the latest closing is 11pm at Shell Coles Express Findon. 11 are shown as closed on Mondays. 471 publish no weekly hours at all, so treat those as unknown rather than open.
9 of the 1,309 charge for entry; the rest are free — the charging ones being Bower Hall and Booborowie Complex. Parking here means the dataset records parking at the site. It does not separate a dedicated car park from a few roadside bays, and it says nothing about accessible bays, height limits or whether a caravan or a rigid truck will fit. All of the counts above are read from the National Public Toilet Map rather than checked in person.
