What applies in Tasmania
The route we can stand behind in Tasmania is the MLAA national order form or a participating MLAA locksmith. If you live in Tasmania, contact your council directly and ask specifically whether they issue permanent keys, loan keys to visitors, or simply refer you to a locksmith.
How to apply — the route that works everywhere
- 1
Check you are eligible
Confirm you have a disability, or written authority from a doctor, a disability organisation, a community health centre, or the owner or manager of a building with an accessible toilet.
- 2
Gather your evidence
Have one of a Disability Card, a Mobility or Disability Parking Permit, a letter from your doctor, or a letter from a recognised disability organisation on hand.
- 3
Order the key
Complete the Master Locksmiths Association national online order form, buy from a participating MLAA business member, or apply through your local council where one runs a scheme.
- 4
Pay the price
Pay $64 excluding GST (the national online price from 1 July 2025), unless a council scheme or a Victorian or South Australian Companion Card offer provides the key free.
- 5
Collect or receive your key
Collect the key over the counter, or have it posted to you, depending on how you ordered.
